Treacle Bread with Sultanas

What you need

  • 500g/1lb Odlums Cream Plain Flour
  • 2 tablespoons Treacle
  • 7 fl oz Milk (approx)
  • 2 tablespoons Shamrock Golden Caster Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Cream of Tarter
  • 1 teaspoon Odlums Bread Soda
  • Good pinch of Goodall’s Ground Ginger
  • 125g/4oz Shamrock Sultanas

Recipe Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas 6. Lightly dust a cake tin or flat baking sheet with flour.
  2. Heat the treacle and milk over a low heat. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a bowl.
  3. Add sufficient liquid to mix to a soft dough.
  4. Turn onto a floured surface and lightly knead. Shape into a round and place in prepared tin, make a cross on the top of dough.
  5. Place into preheated oven and bake for about 40 minutes. Wrap in a clean tea towel until cold.
