225g/8oz Odlums Coarse Wholemeal
350g/12oz Heart's Delight Wheatmeal
125g/4oz Odlums Cream Plain Flour
50g/2oz Odlums Wheat Bran
50g/2oz Odlums Wheatgerm
1 teaspoon Salt
2 teaspoons Shamrock Bread Soda
2 tablespoons Cooking Oil
2 tablespoons Treacle
575ml/1 pint Buttermilk
1 cup Milk


  1. Put wheatmeal, wholemeal, bran and wheatgerm into a bowl.
  2. Sieve in the Cream flour, salt and soda. Mix well together.
  3. Add the oil, treacle, buttermilk and milk. Stir in all the ingredients together well.
  4. Pour into 2 x 2lb greased loaf tins. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C/350°F/ Gas 4 for 1 1/4 hours approximately. Cool on a wire tray.

Recipe makes 2 loaves.

Tip: As a variation, add 50g/2oz chopped apricots and 50g/2oz chopped walnuts to dry ingredients in preparation.
