Baking powder is a raising agent used in various baking recipes. It is activated when liquids, such as fresh milk and eggs, are added to the mix, producing carbon dioxide bubbles that cause the mixture to rise. It is similar to the raising agent used in Self Raising Flour. Perfect for cakes, sponges, some scones and breads. Top tip: to convert Cream Plain Flour for a recipe calling for Self Raising Flour, allow 2 teaspoons of baking powder to 450g/1lb of flour.
